A Kirkus Style Review of Tall, Dark, and Deadly!

Hi everyone!  So I've decided to go ahead and do a full Kirkus-style review of Tall, Dark, and Deadly.  Read on to see what I thought!

Heather Graham
Tall, Dark, and Deadly
Romantic Suspense
July 1, 1999
ISBN: 0451408470
400 pages

Marnie Newcastle blossomed from a childhood of abuse and neglect into a powerful, independent, and beautiful Miami-based attorney with a handsomely renovated seaside home and who seems to be living the dream…until she goes missing, that is.
Most everyone suspects Marnie is just off on some hot weekend date, but her friend and neighbor Samantha Miller suspects something is up and decides to take matters into her own hands.  There are plenty of tall, dark and handsome suspects in the book, but which could possibly be deadly?  Thayer Newcastle, Marnie’s attractive, artistic brother?  Rowan Dillon, a hunky ex-rock star, Samantha’s once-lover, and a former suspect in a missing person’s case?  Lee Chapman, the mafia man?  One of the many wayward criminals Marnie has represented in court?  By golly it could be nearly anyone!  Not to be deterred, Samantha springs into action trying to find Marnie and running into plenty of trouble, a little love, and lots of dead bodies along the way.  Can Samantha solve the mystery and find Marnie before she ends up as alligator food in Florida’s murky Everglade swamps?  You’ll have to read it to find out (though you could probably guess the answer).  This book, though fast-paced with a multi-layered plot and set in an exotic and interesting location, is lacking in both serious suspense and romance and the writing is mediocre at best; if you’re looking for those factors you’d best look elsewhere.
